Okay, I don’t really wear jeans. (Note: I wear denim, I don’t wear jeans, if I can help it) I think wearing jeans makes me look short…… not to mention I don’t have really long and skinny nice legs to make jeans look great, or to let jeans make me look great. LOL. Okay. You get the point, I don’t like wearing jeans lah.
Okay, below is a picture of a pair of jeans I owned since 2006, and I haven’t worn it for like, 2 years?
It’s kinda high-waisted. Erm, in case you’re wondering…… It didn’t look like this when I purchased it. It’s just a pair of plain, slightly- bleached jeans. I made those holes myself and rolled up the hems. I like torn denim =) How I wish my legs are skinny enough to wear those boyish torn jeans~ Sigh.
Anyway, since I’m not wearing it, I might as well not waste it in my wardrobe. DIY a bit lah. I’m gonna make them into torn denim shorts.
Erm, I admit you will need a bit of courage to pull this DIY. If you’re not courageous enough, just think:
“I don’t DIY I also don’t wear mah. Might as well give it a try.”
LOL. But be sure that you don’t use super expensive jeans ah……
Okay, let’s go.
One:
Lay your jeans flat on the floor, then using a pair of sharp scissors, snip off the long part. Snip one side first, then fold your jeans across and snip the other side, so you’ll get equal lengths. Don’t snip it wayyyy short on the first try. Snip it off at a safe length, try it on first, if you wanna go shorter, simply trim it away. TRY IT ON every time after you snip so you’ll get the suitable length for yourself.

Two:
Cut straight upwards on the side to make seams so you can have loose and casual denim shorts. Erm, this is optional actually. But since most jeans are fitting at the thigh part, you’ll get really tight shorts if you skip this step.
Okay, the fun part=) Making holes in your jeans.
You’ll need:
1. Sharp penknife
2. Your hands
Three:
Decide on where you wanna have the holes. I made mine near the hem. Then, using your sharp penknife, slit PARALLEL slits across the jeans, as shown in the photo.
Four:
Grab hold of one piece of the slit, start pulling at it in a parallel motion, like the arrow in the photo. LOL. I also don’t know how to explain this part. I seem to be really lousy at explaining. HAHA. Okay, anyway, the fabric will start to loosen, then you can pick at it with your fingers. The horizontal threads will appear. LOOK AT THE PICTURE LAH!
Five:
Em, for the hem part. Cut it unevenly, so it’ll look natural. As shown in the photo. See, it’s not really straight.
Six:
Get your pumice stone/ foot file/ sandpaper or whatever that’s very rough, and start rubbing vigorously at the hem. They’ll get all frayed up, then the white threads will appear. Like you’ve worn it for ages. FakeOne. LOL.
Okay, I’m done. It’s your choice really, as where you wanna place your frayed threads and holes. Alternatively, go to Google then search for photos of nice torn jeans, use that as your sample.
My end product:
Front. Oh, I folded the hem, by the way.
Back. I made a hole on the back pocket.
Since mine’s high-waist jeans, I can wear them like this:
Like how the next person will wear her denim shorts. T-shirt and shorts.
Or this:
I tucked my blouse in it =)
LOL. Seems so long since I wrote so much. Erm. I hope you understand the instructions, especially the part on making holes. Ask me if you’ve got questions. And in case you really tried, TELL ME~~~! LET ME KNOW~~~! It’ll be fun =) Getting new clothes without spending money and recycling (saving our dear Earth) at the same time! I sound so cheesy =.=
